Spacecraft To The Sun: To Be Sent Successfully Or Not To Be
NASA has been planning to send spacecraft to the sun for a long time. They had proposed a Solar Probe that could be sent to Sun easily and it would have fit itself to the atmosphere of the sun as well. Obviously there were some proper time sequences that need a match while reaching to Sun and explore the central star of the solar system.
The Proposal Of Spacecraft To The Sun
Sun is the mother of the mother earth. NASA previously made ventures to all the planets except this burning star. But finally, they have been able to create the technology for reaching the star. It has been a great challenge for scientists to design such spacecraft. The spacecraft needs to tolerate the extreme radiation and temperature near the sun. The spacecraft proposed by NASA would be circling in the orbit of the sun while keeping a solar radius of 3. However, the spacecraft should be able to tolerate more than 3000 times of solar heat from the distance of earth and the sun.
The engineers and scientists are planning to borrow the technology of the metal that is resistant to hit for this mission. This technology is borrowed from the missile system across the world. Furthermore, the space shuttle design would be in the shape of a cone for protecting it from thermal heat.
It is obvious that the inner portions of the spacecraft to the sun have to be cool. Otherwise, the devices installed within the spaceship would stop working and the mission would be a failure. That is why scientists and engineers have designed this spacecraft by providing it with a highly advanced thermal protection system. The scientists call this system as TPS as well. The design of the TPS consists of three components. There are three heat shields in the TPS. This is made for enduring the solar heat and keep the devices within the space ship working.
The primary heat shield of TPS is made of carbon-carbon composite. It contains ceramic coating also. This shield is designed for protecting the subsystems of the spacecraft and sensitive instruments from being exposed directly to solar radiation. The shape of this heat shield would be of a cone
The secondary heat shield of TPS is made of carbon-foam layers. Besides that, it is encased in a jacket made of carbon-carbon molecules. The whole secondary shield is proposed to be a disk in size. The engineers of NASA have said that this disk would be attached to the base of the primary shield. The secondary shield of spacecraft to the sun would work as an insulator to the primarily heat shield.
There is another heat shield in the design of the spacecraft to the sun. This would be made of carbon-carbon molecules as the primary one. Besides that, this shield has a feature of separation. This can prevent the heat of the secondary shield while making sure that the craft receives maximum stability during the time of reaching the bus.
