Astronomers Discover A Second Giant Planet
An exoplanet is a planet which situates outside the solar system. In other words, we can say it an extrasolar planet. Though the first evidence of the presence of exoplanet came to picture in 1917, astronomers discovered the real proof in 1992. Till now, astronomers discover 4135 exoplanets in around 3000 systems. Out of those 3k systems, 673 have multiple planets in them. Beta Pictoris is the solar system around a star. It is a quite exciting place because of the appearance of the dusty disc of debris, comets, actors, and massive planets.
If you remembered on November 18, 2008, astronomers discovered Beta Pictoris b, which was 13 times heavier than Jupiter and located sixty-three light years away from our earth. It was one of the most excellent discoveries of NASA at that time. Daniel Apai, an astronomy and planetary science professor at the University of Arizona, speculated about the presence of another planet in the system. And now after more than a decade later, astronomers successfully discovered another planet named Beta Pictoris c.
About Beta Pictoris C:
The mass of this 2nd planet is nine times the heavier than Jupiter. It has a larger radius than Jupiter. The age of this exoplanet is 23 million years. There are many ways through which astronomers can detect exoplanets. One among them is infamous Transit photometry. However, astrophysicists found evidence of the presence of Pictoris C through the radial velocity method. The other name of this method is Doppler spectroscopy. It is one of the most valuable tools for discovering exoplanets.
The star always moves in a circular or elliptical path due to gravitational tug between the star and the discovered planet. Its existence in one place is uncertain. And these slight movements affect the star’s usual light spectrum or a variety of colors. The color of the spectrum remains blue when the star shifts towards the observer. However, the spectrum color changes to red when the star moves away from the observer. The cosmologists critically observed those tiny changes for more than ten years and now able to discover the second planet. Cosmologists use this method to find planets and stars that have some similarities with the sun. But it was the first incident where uranologist found a planet around a star using the radial velocity method. A French author from the National center for scientific research stated that the spectrum is quite distinct from solar-star.

Moreover, the adaption of this planet is very less. Back in 2008, Astronomers discovered Beta Pictoris B through a direct imaging method. A NASA scientist named Maxwell Millar-Blanchaer told in a conference that there are immense scopes of research and atmospheric studies of these two planets. It will be interesting as the masses are quite alike. However, professor Ignas Snellen was very much uncertain about the shreds of evidence. He challenged the thinking and understanding of researchers regarding the mass of the two planets and behavior of comets in their atmosphere.
